Research Hours:

Tuesday–Friday

10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (By Appointment Only)

We are a public archives dedicated exclusively to the history of Smith County, Texas.
If your research involves events, places, people, or buildings outside of Smith County, we’ll gladly help connect you with the appropriate organization or resources.

Our staff will reserve your research space and retrieve materials relevant to your topic in advance.

Rules of Use:

To help us protect and preserve our collections, we kindly ask all visitors to follow these guidelines:

1. Sign In on Arrival:

    • All visitors must sign-in and provide at least one method of contact.

2.  Note-Taking:

    • Pencils only, please — pens are not permitted in the research area.

3.  Photography & Scanning:

    • Public use of cameras, scanners, or phones for copying materials is not allowed.

4.  Accessing Materials:

    • Browsing is not permitted.
    • Please share your research topic with as much detail as possible, and our staff will locate the appropriate materials for you.

This agreement grants one-time use of an image for projects such as:
